Growing up...

My friend and I have been emailing back and forth lately and we had a conversation about how the city he moved back to isn’t the way he remembered it. It now all seems so hedonistic to him and he’s no longer entranced by all the sex and drugs. This was my reply:

I think it's a good thing that those sorts of pursuits don't draw you in the way they used to. It implies a change and a sense of maturity. As for not belonging there anymore, I know what you mean. I don't belong here anymore. Though it's a line as old as dirt and about as useful a cliche: there's no going home again. One of my favorite writers, Bill Bryson, said it best: "There are things you just can't do in life. You can't beat the phone company, you can't make a waiter see you until he's ready to see you, and you can't go home again." Places are never the same again after you move away. You leave a little piece of yourself behind there, only to return years later and realize that that piece of the person you were is only a faint shadow of who you are now, if not totally unrecognizable.

Just some food for thought.

First Blog Post EVER!

"First Blog Post EVER!"

Never let it be said that I don't have a flair for titles.

This whole blog thing seems decidedly self-absorbed and incredibly narcissistic, but I have lots I want to share. The next part is a bit about me, if you want to skip that, by all means go down to The point of this blog. I won't be offended.

So here I am. One month past graduation. One month past what was supposed to be the beginning of my adult life. In some ways, I suppose it was.

I graduated. Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English.

I got a job. I am  an office manager at a local window cleaning business. I work full time (godhelpme) which makes me feel more depressed about being an adult than anything else.

Currently, I live with my boyfriend, my Chihuahua, and my rat in a nice apartment in the northern part of San Diego County, about 20 minutes from the beach.

The point of this blog: I want to share all the things that engender any feelings in me whatsoever be they recipes, photos, my chihuahua, friends, family, or whatever. I don't want this to be a long-winded ramble about my life (hatethat). Aside from the above long-winded ramble, I don't plan on doing much more posting about myself. Please remind me of this.
